PhD scholarship in Mathematics Education

The University of Agder invites applications for a full-time fixed-term appointment for a period of three years as PhD Research Fellow in Mathematics Education at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Engineering and Science. The position is currently located in Kristiansand, Norway. The starting date, after January 1, 2011, is to be negotiated with the Faculty.

The Faculty of Engineering and Science presently has a scientific group in mathematics education, and history of mathematics, including six professors, four associate professors and two research assistants. There are approximately 20 PhD candidates registered on the PhD programme. Over recent years the group has been responsible for a number of large mathematics teaching developmental research projects funded by the Research Council of Norway and has been host institution of the Nordic Graduate School in Mathematics Education.

The focus for the position will be directed towards teaching and learning mathematics within one of the current areas of research and development in the field of mathematics education at the University of Agder. Proposals to research teaching and learning mathematics at university level are particularly sought and will be prioritised.

Proposals in other areas of research relevant to the interests of the Mathematics Education Research Group will be considered in the absence of sound proposals in the above mentioned area. These include:
