10 PhD fellowships at GEOSIM

GEOSIM is a new graduate research school funded by the Helmholtz association and grants from its home institutions: GFZ Potsdam, Freie Universit├Ąt Berlin and Universit├Ąt Potsdam. Earth scientists and mathematicians from these institutions have joined forces to start research and education in the field of Explorative Simulation in Earth Sciences.

Our goal is to train a new generation of outstanding young scientists based on a strong collaboration that will systematically link methodological expertise from the areas of Earth and Mathematical Sciences.

Applicants are expected to have a MSc, a German "Diplom" or an equivalent degree by the time they will start at GEOSIM (current round: October 1, 2011). It is not necessary to have completed your degree by the time you submit your application.

If your native language is neither English nor German, you must submit a proof of your English language proficiency. This is not required if you have attended a school, university or college where English is the language of instruction. Every applicant needs two letters of recommendation. After registration you will receive a PDF with information which you may send to your referees.

We ask the applicants to write a statement of research interest. The applicants should have a detailed idea of their dissertation area and who may be a possible supervisor within GEOSIM. Please refer to the information about GEOSIM and the participating groups on the About and Partners pages.

In this second application round, up to 10 PhD fellowships will be awarded for a period of three years starting on October, 1st 2011. The deadline for the current round is May, 25th 2011.

All applicants are asked to register at our web site, fill in the online application form and upload their documents. Detailed guidelines for the application procedure may be found here.

Note: for the time being it is not possible to save your application and recall it in a new session. You will therefore need to complete your application in one session. Make sure you have all required documentation ready before you start filling the form!

Only complete applications respecting the checklist in the Application Guidelines will be considered.
