PhD scholarship: Effect of resveratrol on inflammation and metabolic disease

A PhD scholarship is available at the Department of Science, Systems and Models, Roskilde University within the research project LIRMOI: Longterm investigation of resveratol on management of metabolic syndrome osteoporosis, inflammation, and identification of plant derived anti-inflammatory compounds. The project is a collaborative project between RUC, Aarhus University, University of Southern Denmark and Fluxome Sciences A/S with support from Danish Council for Strategic Research and the student is allocated to the PhD program Mithocondria in Health and Disease at the Roskilde University Graduate School of Science.

The project
The project will identify the modulatory effect of resveratrol (and other naturally occurring compounds) on molecular markers of inflammation and the mechanism of cellular energy sensing, mitochondrial activity and lipid metabolism. Key molecular / cellular players are Sirt1, mTOR and mitochondria metabolism. These mechanisms seem central in the biomedical response of resveratrol.

We expect
The applicant should have a valid experimental foundation in molecular cell biology, preferably experience with gene expression, cellular transfection and enzyme quantification.

Employment as Ph.d. student
is for up to 3 years. The employment includes up to 840 hours work at the department (teaching, research communication etc.). Salary and other conditions are in accordance with agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
